Twittering at Tosca
Nashville Opera tried something new at its presentation of Tosca. Audience members and performers alike were encouraged to tweet their impressions of the opera via e-mail from their cell phones, and all comments were projected in real time on the large wall in the TPAC lobby.

Scarecrow at Cheekwood
Nashville Opera participated in Scarecrows at Cheekwood this year. “Raven Mad Lucia” was designed by Art Director Cara Schneider and constructed with help from Opera staff members.

Nashville Opera is the only opera company in the world producing Phillip Glass’s The Fall of the House of Usher this season. As a result the Opera Guild International chose to hold their regional conference in Nashville in November.
Carol Crittendon of Metro Schools requested Nashville Opera’s education director train teachers in 5 Metro Schools on how to incorporate arts education in their core curriculum. This is in preparation for their participation in the Metropolitan Opera HD Broadcast school program in partnership with Nashville Opera. Education Director Stuart Holt travelled to the Met this October to take part in their national training program.
The new Noah Liff Opera Center, designed by Earl Swensson Associates, has been the recipient of the Urban Land Institute Excellence in Development Award and the Judges Award for BEST OVERALL DESIGN, South Central Construction Best of 2009 Awards. Next year’s ULI Award Ceremony will be held at the Noah Liff Opera Center.

•Opera America national magazine feature on the Noah Liff Opera Center reports: “Though the Center is a new home for the Opera, it will be an exciting new resource for the entire community.”
Nashville Opera on Tour (the Opera’s education touring program) is sold-out for the 12th year in a row and will reach over 70 schools and nearly 35,000 students in 19 counties.
Fifteen percent of Nashville Opera’s attendees are from out of state, a positive economic impact for hotels and restaurants in the downtown area.
