Opera on tour

THE THREE LITTLE PIGS

Introduce your students to live opera with John Davies’ fun retelling of a classic children’s fairy tale, right in your school.

The three little pigs are all grown up and must now each build their own house. As in the classic story, the first couple of attempts led to disaster and land them in direct contact with the famous villain, Wolfgang BigBad! By working together, the three pigs are able to outwit the wolf. The Three Little Pigs teaches children the importance of team work and with the right book, any challenge can be overcome. With an emphasis on literacy, we learn that sometimes three heads really are better than one.

John Davies incorporates popular tunes from Mozart’s most famous operas (Don Giovanni, The Magic Flute, The Marriage of Figaro) making The Three Little Pigs a favorite of children everywhere. 40 minutes in length, this audience- interactive production is sung in English.

Nashville Opera brings full sets and costumes and a cast of four professional opera singers and a pianist, all members of Nashville Opera’s Mary Ragland Emerging Artist Program.

BONUS: Schools may also request a free 15-minute question-and-answer session with the artists after the performance. All participating schools receive a study guide and an accessibility toolkit for teachers to prepare students for the performance.

This program aligns with Tennessee Curriculum Standards for Music, Theatre, Dance, Visual Arts, Reading, Writing, History, Social Studies, Math, and Sciences.

Did you know proceeds from ALL specialty license plates go to the Arts?

The arts are getting cut from state budgets across America.  In Tennessee, we are fortunate to have an additional source of funding.  The extra revenue we receive from specialty and personalized license plate sales has been key to our survival.  More than 70% of the money used to fund the 800+ grants from the Tennessee Arts Commission last year was from the sale of these specialty license plates.
