About Us Home

Nashville Opera is a community-based, locally-funded non-profit organization dedicated to producing the highest quality performances and programs. In addition to the major operatic works which are offered each year, we partner with community schools, civic groups and activity centers to share the beauty of this unique art form with as many people as possible, building appreciation and understanding. We also believe that opera should be available to listeners of every age and income. As an active and vital part of our community, we are part of a greater vision of Middle Tennessee as a healthy, competitive and cosmopolitan place to live.

Nashville Opera Association has been recognized as representing the standard for excellence among all arts organizations in Tennessee. Its main stage performances at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center play to over 12,000 people annually, last season playing to an average of 89% capacity. The Opera’s extensive education and outreach touring program will reach an additional 25,000 students in 18 counties in Middle Tennessee. Four young singers and one coach accompanist will be selected through national auditions to participate in the three month Mary Ragland Young Artist residency program. Each season the Opera also partners with civic organizations to present free public performances at area libraries, retirement communities, colleges as well as numerous other locations throughout Middle Tennessee.
