Nashville Opera Association provides performance and educational opportunities for four career-oriented young singers and one coach/accompanist. The Mary Ragland Young Artist Program offers developing professional singers valuable performance experience and prepares singers for roles in productions at many of the nations leading opera houses. Performance opportunities include the leading roles on the spring educational tour, comprimario roles in main stage productions, and various concert appearances. Contract dates are early January through mid-April. The contract includes a weekly salary, round-trip transportation from the city of origin, and subsidized housing. Applications are reviewed until all positions are filled.
At this time, all positions for the 2007 Mary Ragland Young Artist Program have been filled, however, Nashville Opera is accepting applications for the Spring 2008 program. New York auditions are typically held in the Fall, and Nashville auditions in the Spring. Audition dates will be announced here as they are scheduled.
Nashville Opera Association was founded in 1981 by Mary Cortner Ragland, a Juilliard-trained soprano who devoted her life to music and her community. She was also a co-founder of the Nashville Symphony and a long-time Chairman of the Metropolitan Opera District Auditions in Middle Tennessee. In 1994 she received the Opera Guild International's "Partnership in Excellence" Award, recognizing America's most outstanding opera guild volunteers. We are proud to name our Young Artist Program in her honor.
