Bear Hug/Abrazo de Oso

Introduce your students to opera with BEAR HUG/ABRAZO DE OSO, a world premiere by our own director of education, Anna Young!  We'll come directly to your school with full sets, costumes, four professional opera singers, and a pianist—all members of Nashville Opera’s acclaimed Mary Ragland Emerging Artist Program.  Prepare for 40 minutes of opera magic sung in English and Spanish!

BEAR HUG/ABRAZO DE OSO, our first bilingual children's opera, tells the story of four bears—all from different countries with different appearances and languages—who discover that we are all more alike than we are unalike!  With engaging plot twists and lively music from traditional Spanish operas (called zarzuela), BEAR HUG delivers a good time and a timely moral that our hearts are the same despite outward differences.

BONUS:  Participating schools receive an extensive study guide to prepare for the performance and supplement learning in the classroom.  Schools may also request a post-performance question-and-answer session free of charge.

This program aligns with Tennessee Curriculum Standards for Music, Theatre, Dance, Visual Arts, Reading, Writing, History, Social Studies, Math, and Sciences.
