Lyric Soprano

“Lyric” can mean a variety of different things, depending on who you talk to. While there are no hard and fast rules, there are a few widely accepted distinctions: A light-lyric soprano like Pamina (Mozart’s The Magic Flute) should have a bigger voice than a soubrette but still possess a youthful quality. A full-lyric soprano has a more mature sound and can be heard over a bigger orchestra. Lyric sopranos are usually the “leading lady” and the love interest of the show.
